Cargo bikes are most useful in a city where there are plenty of places to go, people to bring along with you, and cars to breeze past in the bike lane, but space is often at a premium. The GSD was designed with studio apartments and packed garages in mind, but its portability also makes it much easier to fit on a train or in the back of a car, which is a common drawback of other cargo bikes. It achieves this "best of both worlds" design by shrinking the wheels but spacing them further apart, creating a bike that's 6 feet long (about the length of a standard e-bike), but with the wheelbase of a long-tail cargo bike, and a low, stable center of gravity. That means confident handling with or without cargo.
Yes, that's batteries, plural. Of course, with a single 500 Watt-hour battery you'll still get up to 80 miles of range on a full charge, but if you want to double that, Tern incorporated Bosch's dual battery technology to create an all-day touring machine. Just as importantly, they're hooked up to the most reliable e-bike motor on the planet, so you can wander knowing you'll get home.
Fold the handlebars flat to easily slide the GSD in the back of a car or narrow hallway, or set it upright on the rear rack to fit in an unused corner. Then, when it's time to go, don't worry, as there's room for two kids or one adult and all of their gear in the side panniers and front rack.
